چکیده
The Christy Gadget is the informal name for plutonium device detonated in Trinity test on July 16, 1945. In September 1944, Robert Christy, working theoretical implosion group, proposed a novel concept that altered design of nuclear core Fat Man. While scientists originally intended to use hollow sphere plutonium, this entailed substantial risk due likelihood asymmetries resulting from implosion. changing solid with modulated neutron source, and was eventually adopted, tested at Trinity, used attack Nagasaki. there no question regarding important role played demonstrating its feasibility as reliable design, debate who initially idea; though most sources have attributed invention some historical credit Christy’s group leader, Rudolf Peierls, or indeed other scientists. This paper seeks outline resolve dispute. We present new unclassified evidence extracted previously unavailable (to audiences) National Security Research Center archives Los Alamos Laboratory. consists 1945–1946 patent documentation, oral history interview tapes monthly 1944 progress reports Theoretical Division. Though Peierls share joint patent, both Peierls’ words writings, together Hans Bethe Edward Teller, support traditional view originator idea. does deserve majority we acknowledge von Neumann development.

15 صفحه اولThe Man Who Invented Music
We all know Pythagoras did quite a lot for high school mathematics; most of us are aware that his "Theorem" is also the basis for trigonometry, and trigonometry is the theoretical background to that most fundamental of sound waves, the sine wave. But that is not even scratching the surface of the work of the Pythagorean School. The man himself, and his own ideas, are only known to us through th...

Thomas Edison is regarded by many as the greatest inventor in American history. While most people know that he invented the first long-burning incandescent light bulb and the phonograph, the claim is based more generally on the 1093 patents he was granted. The assumption is that the person receiving a patent is legally certified as the inventor of the device which is the subject of the patent. ...

Nick Trefethen [13] listed automatic differentiation as one of the 30 great numerical algorithms of the last century. He kindly credited the present author with facilitating the rebirth of the key idea, namely the reverse mode. In fact, there have been many incarnations of this reversal technique, which has been suggested by several people from various fields since the late 1960s, if not earlie...
